GHEITH, ABDUL LATIF SHEHADEH (1941-)

Born in Jerusalem on 8 Jan. 1941; received a BA in Physical Education Al-Haram University in Cairo in 1966; worked as a teacher for 16 years, first at the Teachers’ Training Center in Ramallah, then at the Dar Al-Tifl Al-Arabi and the Hind Al-Husseini College in Jerusalem; member of the ANM, then affiliated with the PFLP, for which he was arrested six times by the Israeli army; former editor in Al-Fajr newspaper in Jerusalem; was active in socio-political issues, particularly human rights campaigns related to political prisoners; founded Ad-Dameer Prisoners Support and Human Rights Association and Chairman of its Board of Trustees; PNC member; observing member in the PLO Central Council; member of the Board of Directors of PHRMG; member of the Higher Palestinian National Committee on Political Prisoners; was arrested by Israeli military authorities on 29 July 2004 at Qalandia checkpoint and placed under administrative detention in Aug. 2004 (until Feb. 2005).
