MASRI, MAI (1959-)

Born in Amman in 1959 to a Palestinian father from Nablus and an American mother from Texas; brought up in Lebanon where her parents lived near the Shatila Refugee Camp; studied Film at San Francisco State University in 1976; returned to Beirut in 1981; co-founded Nour Productions, together with her husband Jean Khalil Chamoun; produced some of the films he directed, incl. The Shadows of the City which won the Cannes Junior Award in 2001; her own films include the trilogy Children of Fire (1990), Children of Shatila (1998) and Frontiers of Dreams and Fears (2001), the latest of which was broadcast in several languages and has won ten international awards, incl. Best Documentary at the Arab World Institute’s Film Festival in Paris; has received numerous other awards and prizes for her films and documentaries.

مصري، مي (1959 - ) ولدت في عمان في عام 1959 لوالد فلسطيني من نابلس منيب المصري وأم أمريكية من تكساس؛ نشأت في لبنان حيث سكن والديها قرب مخيم شاتيلا للاجئين؛ درست فيلم Film في جامعة ولاية سان فرانسيسكو في 1976؛ عادت إلى بيروت في 1981؛ مؤسسة مشاركة لنور للإنتاج، مع زوجها جون خليل؛ أنتجت بعض الأفلام التي أخرجها، منها: ظلال المدينة والذي فاز بجائزة كان في 2001؛ أفلامها الخاصة تضمنت الثلاثية أطفال النار (1990) أطفال شاتيلا (1998) حدود من الأحلام والمخاوف (2001) الأخير عرض بعدة لغات وفاز بعشرة جوائز عالمية، منها: أفضل فيلم وثائقي في مهرجان الفيلم التابع لمؤسسة العالم العربي في باريس؛ حصدت العديد من الجوائز والمكافآت على أفلامها وأفلامها الوثائقية.
