International
Human Rights Colloquium - Protection Mechanism and
Political Change.
|
SUMMARY:
This large international conference brought human rights experts, political analysts and legal advisors from all over the world. The symposium examined in detail the status and obligations under international law of both the emerging Palestinian Authority and the remaining occupation forces. Legal anomalies concerning the status of Jerusalem, the status of settlements, the position and rights of refugees and prisoners and the current and future status of Israeli military orders were also considered. The key issue with which the colloquium was concerned was how respect for human rights and the rule of law could be best promoted throughout the coming 5 year interim period and under a future Palestinian authority. Full details of the proceedings of this conference are available from the Gaza Center for Rights and Law.
