Conflict Resolution.
|
SUMMARY:
| This seminar was a full
day's programme of lectures, exercises, discussion and
evaluation attended by Khamis Ghosheh, administrative
assistant at PASSIA. Speakers were Professor John Murray,
Dr. Christopher Moore and Bonnie Pearlham. "The
Initiative for Peace and Co-operation in the Middle
East" is a project of the "Search for Common
Ground" founded in 1991 after the Gulf War and
before the peace process began. It has 34 members from
Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Israel, Syria,
Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Palestine. The members
established four groups dealing with different areas
including civil society, economic co-operation and
security as well as conflict resolution. They plan to
publish a quarterly bulletin on regional co-operation in
the Middle East. The programme is designed to plan,
develop and co-ordinate a series of initiatives that
encourage a multi-track approach to the Middle East and
promote co-operative relationships between Middle Eastern
nations and people.
