Palestinian Civil Society Wants Date Set for Legislative Election
Palestinian civil society organizations on Monday called for reinforcing the legitimacy of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in accordance with the Basic Law by resuming the political reform process and not by bureaucratic orders, and demanded that a date be set as soon as possible for legislative elections.
In an appeal to the Palestinian People issued following a meeting hosted by the Palestine Media Center (PMC) in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Monday, the representatives of the civil society organizations demanded that the PNA sets a date as soon as possible for legislative elections according to the new elections law.
Accordingly, “we appreciate what President Mahmoud Abbas said in his speech about his determination to establish the rule of law, institution-building, protection of citizens’ life and property, and demand immediate enforcement of the content of his speech,” the appeal said.
The appeal demanded also more dialogue and participation.
“The big challenges facing the Palestinian national cause urgently require the expansion of dialogue and participation, sidestepping the formulas of factional quotas, and working with the broader popular, social and various forces, which are the safety valve for the Palestinian national and democratic struggle,” the appeal said.
“The civil society is a fundamental partner and guarantor for the resumption of the process of reform and development,” the representatives of the civil society organizations concluded.
