Another major component of PASSIA's activities is the Dialogue Program.
Program activities - hosting guest speakers, briefing individuals and
delegations, and organizing roundtables and debates - are designed to
meet the following principles and values:
- Meetings provide
a venue for the presentation, analysis and exchange of local and international
perspectives; speakers and participants are drawn from a diverse range
of professional and intellectual backgrounds.
- PASSIA meetings
strive to serve as catalysts for civic dialogue and fostering a better
understanding of Palestinian affairs, be they in the domestic or international
context.
- PASSIA ensures
that symposia and workshops are open, self-critical and conducted in
a spirit of harmony and cooperation. Ideas - even if controversial or
painful - are discussed uninhibited and uncensored.
- Public discourse
stirred by debates and discussions is welcome and encouraged if conducted
with respect, academic rigor, and if focused on creating a greater understanding
of the Palestinian question; propagandistic or one-sided/dogmatic efforts
are rejected.
- Contents and agendas
of meetings and briefings classified as "closed" or subject
to "Chatham House rules" are announced as such in advance
and will not be publicized. Participants of those events are thus informed
and expected to respect stated guidelines.
- Meetings and briefings
taking place under the auspices of PASSIA are documented and listed
both in PASSIA's annual reports and website. All encounters include
ideally a summary and are documented as follows:
- Date
- Place
- Topic
- Speaker(s)
- Discussant(s)
- Participants.
- Where necessary
and/or appropriate, meetings are recorded, transcribed and published
- either in book form or web-based - and thus made available to a wider
audience.
