Nov. 24, 1998:
Palestinians, led by Pres. Arafat, inaugurate Gaza International Airport after Israel has held up its opening for two years over security concerns. However, under the Wye River Accord Israel will continue to control the airspace, pre-approve all flight schedules and passenger lists, and can shut down the airport at any time.
Dec. 14, 1998:
In the presence of US Pres. Clinton and led by Pres. Arafat, hundreds of top Palestinian officials revoke parts of the Palestinian charter that calls for the destruction of Israel.
